FAQ

Q: What’s good?
A: What isn’t good? We’re an old fashion bakery that does everything well and we take pride in that. Start in the morning with one of our crème donuts and finish your day with a real treat: our strawberry shortcake!

Q: How big are your cakes? Which size is best for my gathering?
A: You can never have too much cake! Below are our sizes and how many people we believe they serve:

  • 7″ round – 4-6 servings
  • 8″ round – 6-10 servings
  • 10″ round – 10-18 servings
  • 12″ round – 18-24 servings
  • 1/4 sheet – 10-18 servings
  • 1/2 sheet – 25-35 servings
  • Full sheet – 40-75 servings
  • Number Cakes – 20-25 servings
  • Cross Cakes – 20-25 servings

We offer cakes that serve up to 500 people. For larger cakes, please call or email us and our friendly staff will be more than happy to answer your questions.

Q: How far in advance should I order the cake I need?
A: We recommend that you call the bakery to place your order at least three days in advance. We can usually accommodate most orders; however, the more notice you give us the more likely we will be able to fulfill your order.

Q: How should I store my cake?
A: Cakes iced in fondant or buttercream icing can be left out at room temperature (65 – 75 degrees). Cakes with cream cheese icing (such as the Red Velvet) and Whipped Cream Cakes must be refrigerated.

Q: I forgot mom’s birthday party tonight! What should I do?! HELP ME!!
A: Calm down. We have 7”, 8”, 10”, and ¼ sheets in stock and we can write on them for you when you come to pick it up.

Q: Do you deliver? How much do you charge?
A: Yes. Delivery surcharges are based on proximity and day of the week, typically ranging from $50 to $75. Please try to pre-arrange deliveries. Exceptions can be made but we usually don’t do same day delivery.

Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. We prefer “straight cash homie.”

Q: Can I make changes once my order has been placed?
A: Changes and cancellations can be made up until 72 hours before the order is to be picked up.

Q: How far ahead should I make my wedding cake appointment?
A: We suggest you call to book your appointment 2-3 weeks before your consultation and 2-3 months before the day of your reception.

Q: What do I need to bring with me to my cake consultation?
A: Your sweet tooth, for one. An occasion date, approximate number of guests, and where the party is being held would also be helpful for our staff. Also, it’s your special day so any other ideas or details you would like included in your cake design–such as color swatches, invitations, details from your wedding dress, etc. – can be very helpful in designing YOUR cake.

Q: Is there a fee for wedding consultations?
A: No way. Weddings are expensive enough! You take the left over samples with you!

Q: I have food allergies. Does Schenk’s make anything wheat/dairy/nut free?
A: We use the finest dairy, flour and nut products. We recommend not consuming any of our products if you have any food allergies.

Q: Which products do not contain nuts?
A: While peanuts and other tree nuts may not be a key ingredient in every one of our baked goods, all of our baked goods are made in the same area where products containing various nut items are created. Though best practices are used in the manufacturing of our baked goods, inadvertent cross-contamination may occur.

Q: Does Schenk’s have any gluten-free items?
A: No

Q: Does Schenk’s have anything sugar free?
A: Yes, we offer several sugar free products. We bake sugar free cookies, brownies, chocolate and vanilla cake, tea biscuits, and fruit pies.

Q: Is Schenk’s Family Bakery kosher?
A: No
